Cadets & youth

The East Midlands RFCA plays a large role in executing the MOD Youth Policy across the region. Whilst the core of this policy is support to the Cadet Forces, there are two other strands which are the Ministry of Defence’s contribution to the curriculum and also partnership with the wider Youth community. There are three strands to the MOD Youth Policy to which the RFCAs take an active role in delivering. These are Cadets, Curriculum and Partnerships.

Cadets

The Ministry of Defence sponsors four Cadet Forces, the community based Sea Cadets Corps (SSC), the Army Cadet Force (the ACF) and the Air Training Corps (the ATC) and school based Combined Cadet Force (the CCF) – totally nationally nearly 133,000 young people and 25,000 adult volunteers – in the East Midlands there are approximately 9,000 cadets and 1,300 adult volunteers. To find out more about the Cadet Forces in your area and how you get involved, please visit our Cadets section.

Curriculum

The Ministry of Defence’s support to the curriculum is presently being reviews but until recently was through Defence Dynamics, a free online teaching resource with over 100 free lesson plans and assembly plans and 1,000 video clips and images within a multimedia library are freely available to teachers to support the delivery of lessons to 14-16 year olds. All teaching materials are fully curriculum and examination board linked and draw on real-life, topical examples of MOD work in the UK and internationally to bring learning to life. The primary aim of Defence Dynamics is to deliver an exciting resource to support interest in key curriculum subjects, while improving young people's understanding of the breadth and nature of the Ministry of Defence’s work. The Defence Dynamics website formally closed on the 7 January 2011 but the resources have been archived and accessible on the National Archives website by clicking here.
